ERIS

Eris is a dwarf planet is located in the outer reaches of our solar system. It was in 2005 by professional astronomers who were examining images taken in California's Palomar Observatory two years earlier.

As a dwarf planet it fulfills most of the criteria for a planet with the exception that it is not the attraction because of its size, for space around him other celestial body.

It was formerly known as UBU 313 and nicknamed Xena, before it received its present name. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is responsible for naming and classifying the planet.

Eris has a diameter of 2400 km is the slightly larger than Pluto. In comparison the Earth diameter is 12,742 km. Neither dwarf planet or planets are perfect spheres, this is not the ideal way to measure their size, but it is a reliable indicator.

Eris, as evidenced by the Keck telescope Eris It takes almost 557 years to orbit the sun, and it is 97 times further from the sun than the Earth (defined as 97 astronomical units - 97 AU), if in its broadest. It has an extremely unusual orbit was eccentric means that at its next Eris is 38 AU from the Sun. So at some times it is closer to us (and the sun) than Pluto.

Because it is so far from us, we can not observe Eris with the naked eye or even binoculars in the same way as you can planets such as Mars or Jupiter. You need a very powerful telescope and have much experience amateur astronomy, to use it so do not expect that there will be included in our sky at any time soon

Dysnomia is a small moon of Eris, for about two weeks in orbit parent company dwarf planet. It is about 8 times smaller than Eris. The astronomers are currently studying the relationship between Dysnomia and Eris. A better understanding of how they interact, it is to show them the mass of the dwarf planets and the moon.

If its diameter (by observing in 2005) was a mystery to astronomers around the world. Was it the tenth planet? If not, then justified what was there for maintaining Pluto of its planetary status apart from the fact that ordinary people consider it a planet? It was decided by the IAU in 2006 to repeal the two Pluto and Eris as dwarf planet. That decision was controversial, but number planetary full steady discover let all more large but distant bodies solar system in the future.
